“Cabinets of Curiosities” & “Meat Fence” Exhibitions

This event has passed!
Two exhibitions that will undoubtedly provoke discussion in Perth’s arts scene, will premiere on Thursday, 13 February 2014 at 6.00pm at Perth Centre for Photography (PCP). Perth based artist Connie Petrillo, is well known for her controversial artistic style and for examining the ways in which we represent our children. Her upcoming exhibition, ‘Cabinets of Curiosities,’ challenges the audience to examine how they view children in art, as captured within the constraints of the law and asks what has become of childhood innocence and joy. Justin Spiers and Jonathon W. Marshall are all too aware of the role art can play in showcasing environmental concerns. Their exhibition ‘Meat Fence’ confronts our utilitarian approach to hunting and culling animals and is especially timely for WA audiences with our own shark culling policies currently drawing headlines. The exhibition showcases a series of photographs of over 300 pig skins and skulls placed along a fence by hunters and local farmers in Otago, New Zealand.
