100 Years of ANZAC: A Community Event

100 Years of Anzac: A Community Event, presented by City of Perth with Lotterywest, RSLWA and MRA.

On the 2015 ANZAC Centenary long weekend, you’re invited to a three day community event with free family activities and entertainment over three city locations, designed to enable and further appreciation and understanding of the ANZAC legacy.

Focussing on reflection, gratitude and education, all are invited to engage in free outdoor displays; storytelling; dance; theatre; poetry; installations; food and information stalls; interactive children’s activities; live music; big screen service broadcasts and exhibitions.

Inside Perth Cultural Centre’s institutions (State Library of WA, Art Gallery of WA, WA Museum, State Theatre Centre of WA) you’ll also find a range of activities, exhibitions and guided tours that are also free to attend.

Discover the past which has shaped our present, and the sacrifices that have enabled our future.

PERTH CULTURAL CENTRE
Saturday 25 April, 6am – 1pm

Live broadcasts on the Perth Cultural Centre Screen (King’s Park Dawn Service, Perth Troop March, Gallipoli Service)

Saturday 25 April, 12 noon – 4pm
Sunday 26 April & Monday 27 April, 10am – 4pm

Participate in rosemary wreath making with Awesome Arts; poppy knitting; origami peace crane making; an early 1900s photo booth; and Family History Discovery (Sunday only).

View an historic photo exhibition; authentic WW1 army encampment with daily troop drills, bell tent and nurses station; military drills; pipe and drum bands; and write a message to a serviceperson for the Remembrance Arch or sail it in a bottle on the Peace Pond.

FORREST PLACE
Monday 27 April, 10am – 4pm

Activities and entertainment include all ages poppy and badge making workshops, WA Camera Club Pop Up Photo Studio and Australian Red Cross heritage display.

Live music performances from the Australian Army Band Perth, Perth Highland Pipe Band, Jake Dennis & the Mint Jazz Band, and City of Perth Brass Band repertoire acknowledges the contributions of the ANZACs while celebrating hope, promise, and hard-won victory.

NORTHBRIDGE PIAZZA
Monday 27 April, 1 – 4:30pm: Hullaballo Hollywood Canteen

The City of Perth in partnership with the Perth Swing Dance Society is proud to present this free public event featuring vintage songbirds The Cottontail Trio, straight out of the 1940s wartime era.

As part of Perth’s annual five day swing dance extravaganza Hullabaloo, bring your friends and family to the Piazza for an uplifting commemorative event.

Enjoy a free family feature film at 1pm, get your hair done in vintage style, and cut a rug in the sun with a free swing dance class and performance from 2:30pm.
